Fort Lauderdale

Sunday morning February 9th, we left Ft. Pierce after getting fuel and a pump out. We again proceeded our way through the ICW motor sailing behind Hutchinson Island,  Stuart, Hobe Sound, Jupiter, and Lake Worth.
Jupiter Lighthouse

By 3:30 we arrived at Palm Beach south of Peanut Island and anchored in beautiful pale blue water.  We could see the anchor on the bottom! Wind was blowing strong from the north but the holding was good.  Finally we enjoyed some relaxing time in the cockpit to read, take in the sights, and grill some burgers.  Next day February 10th, the weather conditions were perfect for an ocean sail to Ft Lauderdale - 44 miles of clear skies,  north winds turning east, and 2 ft seas.  Glad we were able to take advantage of these conditions and avoid the 20 bridge openings on the ICW.  By 2:00 we arrived at port everglades inlet which is the entrance to Ft Lauderdale - the shortest day yet!!  Once inside we passed at least a half dozen cruise ships at port.  From here only 2 bridge openings to the Las Olas Marina where we decided to stay a few nights.  Great location on the east side of the ICW and less than a quarter mile walk to the beach!

February 11th, Mom's birthday we toasted her and celebrated with my uncles, and cousin - who happened to be in Ft Lauderdale for business, and later Aunt T and Uncle Bernie. So great to see everyone!!

Later that day after seeing the weather forecast for strong south winds, we decided to stay an extra day in Ft Lauderdale.  Great idea!! We had our first beach day in Florida, and it was blowing strong from the south.  So glad we didn't leave!  Tomorrow our plans are to continue to Miami for the boat show!  This year we get to spend Valentine's Day together in Miami!!
